Fix Apple’s Broken EarPod Design With This $10 Accessory

ku-bigpicApple’s earbud redesign year was a contentious thing. I thought the new EarPods sounded as crummy as the old ones, but unlike the old ones, at least they weren’t like shoving pieces of glass into your cochleas. On the other hand, our supreme commander Leander thought they sounded as good as $150 dollar Beats. Which, […]

Moleskine Notebook Transforms Into Analog Camera Accessory For iPhone

It’s hard to see why the folks at Barcelona-based Honest&Smile built this crazy contraption into a Moleskine notebook, but that doesn’t make it any less neat — after all, Doc Brown built a time machine into a DeLorean. When closed, it looks like any other overpriced book of blank paper. When opened, it reveals a […]

Why iOS Accessory Makers Are Ditching Lightning For Bluetooth

18_46_22_800_file

There was a time when every hotel room had a 30-Pin Dock Connector in it somewhere, but eight or nine months after debut, Lightning — the 30-Pin Dock Connector’s successor — still hasn’t really taken off, outside of a few docks and battery cases. Sure, it’s a new standard, and Apple was famously very slow in issuing MFi deals to accessory makers who wanted to support Lightning… but even so, it  [Read More…]

Survival Of The Fittest: iPhone Accessory Maker Fitbug Sues Fitbit For Trademark Infringement

fitbit_one_image

Fitbug is a company that makes exercise accessories that work with iPhone apps. Fitbit is also a company that makes exercise accessories that work with iPhone apps. Their names are similar, and so are their products. It’s kind of like they’re the same company, except they’re totally not, and that’s the problem.

The confusion between the names of the two companies has really started to get under Fitbug’s skin, so it’s  [Read More…]

Accessory Maker With Direct Links To Foxconn Says The iPhone 5S Is Coming In June

iphone-5

A “confidential presentation” that outlines the upcoming product plans for a manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China, suggests the iPhone 5S could launch in June this year. Most rumors have suggested the device wouldn’t arrive until this fall, around 12 months after the iPhone 5, but an accessory manufacturer with direct links to Foxconn is confident it’ll be here much earlier.

The presentation includes a whole bunch of “iPhone 5S” accessories, including cases, chargers,  [Read More…]

Apple Patents Clip-On Accessory That Could Bring Tactile Feedback To iOS Devices

Apple-tactile-clip-on

No one likes typing on a touchscreen keyboard. Even after using an iPhone for five years, I avoid writing anything more than a short text message or email on it whenever possible. We know Apple’s been working hard to bring tactile feedback to touchscreen devices from previous patents, but this particular invention is one of its weirder ideas.

It’s a clip-on accessory that fits onto a an iPod, iPhone, or iPad  [Read More…]

The iPad Potty! The Worst iPad Accessory Ever Made? Or the Best?

iPad toilet

This lovely colorful plastic toilet is also an iPad stand, and that means you can now finally potty train a child (or yourself, no judgment here!) with the help of a convenient iPad-toilet combo.

I don’t know about you, but I have far more questions than answers about this thing. Is there an app that goes along with this “accessory”? And what does that app do? Is this  [Read More…]

Give Your iPhone A Mini Cinema Display With This Crazy Accessory

who needs an iPad Mini when you can just use a magnifying glass?

The iPhone 5 has a slightly larger display than the iPhone 4S, but come on, no one wants to watch movies on a tiny little 4-inch screen. You could go and buy an iPad or iPad Mini if you really want to watch movies on your iOS device, or you could save your self a few hundred  [Read More…]

Walkmanesque iPhone Accessory Converts Old Tapes To MP3s

I'd actually buy one of these to use as a retro iPhone case.

Do you still own a collection of music stored on cassette tapes? Then I have some advice: STOP LIVING IN THE PAST! Those things’ll kill you eventually. If the wow and flutter doesn’t get you, or the ridiculous rewind times don’t drive you crazy, then the magnetic tape will probably spool out at nights and strangle you in your sleep.  [Read More…]
