I had never actually thought about this annoyance until I read Bilton’s piece. And coincidentally, it actually happened  [Read More...]

French startup, French minister. Hmmm.

Once you get on Apple’s bad side, it’s hard to climb back into its good graces, and AppGratis is starting to learn that the hard way. After pulling AppGratis’ app from the Apple Store last week, Apple has also decided to kill push notifications on the app for users that still have it installed.

Screen Flash for Alerts in Mac OS X A little-known screen flashing feature exists in Mac OS X that provides an alternative way of being notified of system alerts, meaning that anytime you’d typically hear the general system sound effect feedback, see a bouncing Dock icon, or have a new icon badge appear, the screen will briefly flash instead. Notifications on the iPhone can be annoying. Right? They drop at inappropriate times, and I always end up accidentally activating them. Of course, my iPhone is more than happy to hop over to the application that sent the Notification in the first place. There are, however, a couple of cool ways of dismissing them without activating them, short of waiting for them to go away, which is what I’ve done since they  [Read More...]

Now that push has become an expected feature in modern Twitter apps, it was only a matter of time before The Iconfactory added it to their app.

You can get push notifications for new mentions, direct messages, favorites, retweets, and followers. The  [Read More...]

batteryproblems

So you went out to drink with your friends and you forgot to charge your battery. What an idiot. At one point in the evening you know you’re going to get one of those dreaded “20% of battery remaining” notifications, but by that point you’ll probably be too drunk to care about conserving battery.

Maybe if the iPhone’s low battery notifications had a little bit more sass we’d listen to them  [Read More...]
